Welcome to Isle of Wight Radio Society Website!

A bit of our history
The club was founded in 1959 with the first committee meeting being held on the 15th October 1959 at the QTH of Mr A Wakely G3MAD at Arnold Road, Binstead.
Membership fees were agreed as follows: Corporate Member 25p (5/-) per annum, Associate Member 12½p (2/6d) per annum.
This was followed by the first AGM on January 8th 1960 at Newport Social Club.
In 1962 the club started to run RAE courses by Dave Ford at a cost of 2/- per lesson. (these courses are still being run today by Mr Alan Ash G3PZB although the licensing structure has changed somewhat)
In 1963 Howard Littley G2NV became president of the society.
On 22nd April 1963 land adjacent to Wootton Creek was offered for sale at a price of £275 or to rent at £40 p.a, this was considered by the club but funds were not available at that time.
First committee meeting at the Unity Hall took place on June 26th 1963 with the prospect of renting and Inspection of the premises.
In 1964 1000 QSL cards were donated to the Society by the I.W Publicity Council.
Sept 1966 a RAE course was run by John Clarke G3KOY in new club room recently acquired adjacent to entrance hall. The Club thrived, many special events, lectures and lots of activity from the Club's station even though the antenna was relatively modest.

When the owner finally closed his boat building workshop he sold the land for housing. Around 2000 we moved to a hut on the cliff above Whitecliff Bay. This, apart from the decaying state of the building, was a good location. We had sole occupancy of the large hut, separate HF/VHF shacks, a workshop and a large meeting room.

Eventually the site owners, a Holiday Park, decided they wished to tidy the site so we found accommodation at Haylands Farm and moved there in August 2007. We are in cabin at the rear of the main building but this is just a temporary situation. We are waiting for a move to more permanent premises later this year.
